Sept 5
Labor Day (NO SCHOOL)
Sept 16
Boots & BBQ, 5:30-8:00PM

Hello Hawk Families,
It was a pleasure to see and meet so many of you at Back to School Night this week. We are off to a great start and welcome your involvement. You make us better!
Site Council
We are looking for an additional parent representative for our Site Council. Site Council meets approximately every 6 weeks afterschool on Tuesday afternoons. This group includes equal numbers of staff members and parents. Site Council will focus on alignment to district goals (equity, multiple tiered systems of support and developing community) by utilizing information from our site and district surveys and assessment data to develop goal areas. If you are interested in providing valuable input as a member of this team, please let me know. Our first meeting date is scheduled for Tuesday, September 27th 3:15-4:30.
Wildfire Season
Record drought. Unpredictable winds. Climate change. All are making wildfires more intense and something for which we prepare. Hidden Valley students will practice a fire drill on Tuesday, as we will every other month. We are fortunate that the Hidden Valley multi-purpose room is designated by RV Fire Department as a ‘safe location’ should there ever be a need to shelter from a wildfire. As a community, we all need to be prepared, FireSafe Marin has great resources.
Why oh why are Wednesdays so short?
Students are dismissed at 1:35 on Wednesdays so that teachers have dedicated time to collaborate, plan, and meet together as a staff, grade level, and/or district. This coming Wednesday, all elementary teachers will be meeting at Hidden Valley School to review our CAASP scores and also the District Racial Equity Action Plan. The plan provides a common language and organizational structure to help guide our work in making schools more just and equitable. More info to come!
Enjoy the three day weekend ahead!
In Education Together,
Kristi

The suggested class fund contributions cover class parties, teacher appreciation gifts and additional school supplies. There is also a suggested field trip contribution to support various field trips your class will take throughout the school year. Finally, you can also choose to add to our library collection by purchasing a birthday book.
You can make your contributions on the PTO website hiddenvalleypto.org using the Shop tab.
Open PTO Positions
Recess Enrichment Coordinator - Do you have a passion for art, legos, or an interest working with kids? Do you have a special skill you’d like to share such as knitting or origami? Help us bring back enrichment options for students at lunch recess.
Spiritwear Coordinator - We are seeking a person who would like to shadow our spiritwear coordinator this year and take duties over next year. Duties would include choosing items, maintaining a relationship with the vendor, and answering occasional emails from families.

What a great turnout at the New Parent Social last Friday!
The Dugout was buzzing with the energy of all the new parent connections, and was the perfect start to a school year that has more fun community building events to look forward to. A big thank you to Meagan Coughlin and Cristie Lo for organizing!

We hope you are all getting excited for the family friendly back-to-school bash, Boots & BBQ! This is a great opportunity to connect with new and returning Hidden Valley families. There will be live music by Miracle Mule, hosted BBQ dinner, Hog Island oysters and games for the kids. Dust off your western gear and join the fun!
Please RSVP here to let us know how many in your family will be joining us.
We also need volunteers to help this event run smoothly. Grab a friend or two and sign up to volunteer here!
